Patients with temporal lobe lesions were not significantly more likely than extratemporal patients to have an ipsilateral temporal spike or sharp wave focus. Poor interictal scalp localization has been attributed to the fact that the recorded focal abnormality may only be a part of a deeply localized, more extended focus that propagates to the surface. The occurrence of bilateral independent sharp waves and spikes in patients with epilepsy has been well recognized [89,90,91].
